Performance Tips

  1. Use CRF for quality control - Better than bitrate control for video
  2. Copy streams when possible - Use -c copy to avoid re-encoding
  3. Hardware acceleration - GPU encoding is 5-10x faster
  4. Appropriate presets - Balance speed vs. compression
  5. Use mogrify for batch - In-place image processing
  6. Strip metadata - Use -strip to reduce file size
  7. Progressive JPEG - Use -interlace Plane for better web loading
  8. Limit memory - Prevent crashes during large batch processing
  9. Test on samples first - Verify settings before batch processing
  10. Parallel processing - Use GNU Parallel for multiple files

# Change <policy domain="coder" rights="none" pattern="PDF" />
# to <policy domain="coder" rights="read|write" pattern="PDF" />

Memory errors

# Limit memory usage
ffmpeg -threads 4 input.mp4 output.mp4
